Wow thanks so much for all the response, I really appreciate!

I tried a restore, but it hung. Waited a while, I got back into it, hung again.

Then waited even longer, tried again, it hung...

In the end I saw at least 4-5 CPU cores completely occupied with MySQL. It got 
like stuck and new backup jobs don't run either :(

I can't imagine this is just MySQL not good, we have lot's of MySQL with pretty 
heavy stuff and (almost) never seen things like this.

I'll have to do more testing, but this is unworkable as it looks.
