There's no silver bullet size. I tend to use different sizes depending of what I will do afterwards with the volume (8 to 18 Gb) when moved by rsync, 128 to 256Go on small setup, 32Gb up to 1Tb for biggest storage. It's hard to say how much an incremental will be so a median, or average value, or whatever is convenient for you should do it.
