According to testing and feedback on the list, this is usually related
to the kernel you are using.  If you compile your own kernel, the issue
may go away.  The issue has appeared with newer kernels, especially
in the latest Ubuntu release.

Check back in the mailing list archives for more information.  I believe
Troy Engel wrote about this last, and he had spasmodic success.

If there is a mountable filesystem on the device, the kernel should
automatically see it and load the usb_storage module.  If this module
is loaded, then you cannot use the Barry tools at the same time.
It's one or the other.
