Hi,
thanks for this post Soren,

I am using the latest ubuntu 10.4 and barry-util 0.15-1 (available with apt ).
I have commented out all the line about bcharge in /etc/udev/rules.d/10-
blackberry.rules
replug my bold 9700 to the usb port and then ubuntu has found the usb mass 
storage device ;)
