This Weekend I visited the 2005 Condor Convention, held at
the Marriott hotel located in San Diego's Mission
Valley. Unfortunately my schedule allowed only a few hours on Saturday
afternoon.
An hour was spent in the dealers room concentrating mostly on book sellers,
I did buy one book from Mysterious Galaxy Books, adding to my collection of half
dozen books I haven't got round to reading yet. I had a short conversation
with Chase Masterson, the actress who played Leyta on ST Deep Space
Nine. The art show in the back of the room had several several
outstanding pieces, some of my favorites were several fantasy
works by Sarah Clemens.
SG-Command.Net had a large room displaying props and costumes from Stargate
SG-1 and Atlantis, plus their own replica props. Some very,
very serious fans at work!
One table I visited several times was a papercraft model display of
sci-fi spaceships and real spacecraft. No need for plastic model kits, just
illustration software or downloaded models, construction paper, a hobby
knife and an inkjet printer.
I had some excellent conversations with the people hosting the paper model
group, I think I may give it a try.
That's my report from the San Diego area. My next report hopefully will be
of the E3 Electronic Gaming Convention being held this May in Los Angeles. Lots
of Sci-fi and Fantasy video games are in production, many will be
on display, also the next generation Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft X-Box 2
will likely be unveiled.
