It was pretty rude of them to book the room to another group when they could not get hold of anyone from BASFA. The usual rule on this is if you can't get permission, don't do it.
But I have to say that in the couple of months I've been attending, the only complaint I've had is their overloading one waitperson with the task of serving our whole gang, with separate checks.
