(as we may miss next week's meeting depending on when we get back from
Van Nuys)

Giovanni's Pizzeria is a smidge difficult to find the first time around.
It's in the strip mall on Lawrence Expressway at Lakehaven Drive (behind
the gas station, so the sign isn't terribly visible from Lawrence, enter
from Lakehaven) just north of 101. If we select this site, the BASFA web
site must include these details so new members can find the place easily.

It's clean, the second room (I'd hesitate to call it a "meeting room")
is large and could support over 40 people easily. We were not
overcrowded with around 30 people tonight. The acoustics aren't great,
but they're much better than the Milpitas Round Table. We did get a
little noise from the first room, but it wasn't bad.

Service was quick and friendly, and food came quickly. There wasn't a
large staff on duty, but they dealt much more gracefully with our gang
than the Hick'ry Pit had been doing in the last year. A bit more
attention to beverage refills would have been nice, but since drinks
came in large 24oz (I think) tumblers, it wasn't a really big problem.

Food was good. It's a pizza restaurant menu, but the selection is pretty
varied. There are plenty of vegetarian options (but I expect no vegan
options). I had the baked lasagna and Kevin had the tortellini, and we
found them satisfactory. The minestrone was good too, a bit light on the
chunky stuff but excellent flavor.

Checks included an 18% service charge/gratuity/tip, but this was clearly
marked and not sleazed-in. Our check came out to about what we had been
spending at the Hick'ry Pit, maybe a little less.

At this point, Giovanni's goes on my "suitable for meetings" list.
