I -- unlike some people on this list -- seem to be able to make a distinction between someone acting in his/her personal capacity, and someone carrying out a task for an organization. A couple of days ago, I posted a press release about SFSFC's SMOFCon scholarship. I did that in my role as the Secretary of SFSFC, Inc. I didn't _personally_ give Heather Stern $500! I just carrying out a task from the corporation because I'm the board Secretary. Anyone who thought it was _me personally_ handing out money and not SFSFC Inc. isn't paying attention. Similarly, Pam Rice -- who is, if you'd bothered to actually read the message, stepping down from the board of SiliConventions -- issued an announcement on behalf of SiliConventions, Inc., whose board secretary she still is for a while. She didn't _personally_ ask you or anyone else to volunteer. But now I will take this personally, because I was one of the people asked whether it would be appropriate for SiliConventions to post a notice that they're looking for directors, and I said it seemed like a good idea to me. And it still does. You're letting your disappointment in the passage of Proposition 8 -- which I share, as I'm sure you're aware -- cloud your perspective. And, if you must make everything personal, you're making me personally look bad for having said that asking BASFA if anyone would like to join SiliCon's board of directors was a good idea. And personally, I respect people carrying out responsibilities they committed to. In my book, it's much better to give people warning that you're planning to retire as a director and board secretary than for people to find it out when none of the corporate paperwork has been filed and you find an old notice telling you that your corporation has been revoked for non-filing. Or to find that what you thought was a non-profit corporation with a pending 501(c)(3) tax exemption filing is neither incorporated nor filed, thanks to the Secretary having flaked. (I've experienced the latter.) Kevin _______________________________________________ Basfa mailing list [email protected] http://lists.basfa.org/listinfo.cgi/basfa-basfa.org
