I was just in Canada at the begining of this month. In Toronto, I
found that the exchanges in downtown (esp. Chinatown) gave the best
rates, for US cash. There was never any fees, and I was getting like
$1.15 Canadian. At the hotels it was like CDN 1.05/1.00 USD and at
the airport, there was a pretty big fee. To get to downtown (at
least for YYZ) you only need CDN 20.00 ... but you'd probably want a
little bit more to tide you over until you find an exchange downtown.
I'd really love to go to Anticipation, but well, I was just in Canada
for a professional event ("Future Ruby") and will be again for a
fannish type event ("Camp Feral") at the end of August. My spending
on CA is maxing out ... :-(
