the treasurer

No President report
Party committee reports that a room was booked for Silicon next month.
The Millennium Bug Committee was absent but there was some talk about
sponsoring a night in the Silicon con suite.
We welcomed new visitor Al, who is Rackster online, to the meeting.
Unfortunately, his new job requires him to work swing shift, so the odds of
seeing much of him in the future are slim. Al appears as an excellent Captain
Jack Sparrow at conventions.
Announcements:
Adrienne announced that she found an earring that she lost many years
ago--wedged between the headrest and back support of her driver's seat--and
never thought she’d see again. She took advice on how to clean them.
Mo has a temporary phone number, but says the best way to contact her at the
moment is at colmahouse at yahoo dot com. She is running the art show at
Silicon and doing programming for Sorcercon on Thanksgiving weekend at the
Doubletree.
Kevin S. announced that SFSFC is offering another $500 scholarship for a local
conrunner to attend SMOFcon this year. The judging committee will be accepting
applications until October 15th. See sfsfc.com for more details.
Kevin also said he’s looking forward to doing “The Match Game”
again and he saw a live game show, “Truth or Consequences,” outside of the
science fiction community. It gave him a good reference point to produce a game
show.
Reviews:
Fred went to Burning Man and loved it. The pyrotechnics were incredible and
were like dust devils. It was like going into another reality. He believes it
would be a kewl thing to do at Renovation and will talk that concom about it.
There were lots of follow-ons.
In addition, Fred reviewed Julie & Julia as worth full price.
It was much better than he thought it would be.
Adrienne watched some of the many airings of The Man with the Golden Gun and
The Spy Who Loved Me on BBC America this weekend. She believes anyone but Roger
Moore should be playing Bond. (George Lazenby and and Timothy Dalton were
grossly underrated in their performances.) Barbara Bach is one of the most
monotone “actresses” in both dialogue and facial expressions.
Gordon attended Bubonicon 41 in Albequerque, NM. He said it was the largest
attended one ever with 600 members. Also present was George R.R. Martin, Connie
Willis, and Walter Jon Williams. Gordon said he had a blast.
Mo stays up late to take care of business and leaves the TV on. One TV series
she really likes is “Time Team,” which puts archaeologists in "emergency
operations" to excavate a site in three days. Mo thinks if this show is not on
DVD, it should be.
There were no auctions, no money was collected, and we adjourned 9-ish.
