Assuming my employer doesn't send me out yet again (I'm in Columbus for another two-week stint), I will be back in the Bay Area January 18. It's Hugo Award nominating time again, and time for our annual Hugo Recommendation Discussion nights. Worldcon is back on the first weekend of September this year, so the nomination schedule isn't as cramped as it has been the past two years.
I suggest that we plan to hold our Recommendation Nights on the first three Mondays of February (February 1, 8, and 15), doing five categories/week starting from the "bottom" of the ballot and working our way up to The Big One. I will, as I've done in the past, do the necessary record-keeping. All you have to do is bring your recommendations to the meeting for discussion. Now's the time to go back through what you've read and watched in 2009 that you liked sufficiently to nominate for a Hugo Award. If you were a member of Anticipation (Worldcon Montreal) or join Aussiecon 4 (Worldcon Australia) by the end of January 2010, you're eligible to nominate for this year's Hugo Awards. However, even if you aren't eligible (and even if you decide you can't afford a membership to A4), you can still make recommendations for the benefit of people who _are_ eligible to vote, which is a relatively high percentage of BASFA members. If you haven't already seen the announcements on the opening of nominations, see http://www.thehugoawards.org/2010/01/nominatons-open-for-2010/ for links to the ballot and information on joining Aussiecon 4 as at least a supporting member.
