Vice President reported that there are new issues of every fanzine he’s
associated with, including The Drink Tank and Journey Planet.
Chris confessed to making possibly the stupidest plan of his
life: He is heading the committee to recreate the bed of ware at the Victoria &
Albert Museum.
The Sports Committee reports that the Giants are at the top of their division.
Announcements:
Lisa announced that the Sharks are the Western Division Champions for the third
year in a row.
Harrold is also back at home.  His hiccups are better, but he’s
unable to bear weight on his broken ankle.  Oh, boy, is he grumpy.
Mike McLaughlin reports that Artist John Schoenerr has died.
Dave C. says the new Other Change of Hobbit is up and running.  The store can
be reached at 510/OKHobbit.
Howeird says May 8 is National Train Day.
Kevin S. says Hugo nominee Gail Carriger and Blake Charlton will be reading at
SF in SF on Saturday (April 17) at the Hobart Building.  Doors open at 6 p.m.,
readings start at 7 p.m.
Mike Miyake says that Saturday is also Free Comic Book Day.
Chris reports that Dick Giordano, a Silver Age comic book pro, has died.
Andy adds that Paul Cornell is now writing for Action Comics.
Ken announced that Silicon will have an open, general meeting Saturday, 2 p.m.,
April 17, at Coco’s.  It will be skipping 2010, planning for 2011, and meeting
should last two hours.
Reviews:
Carole says How to Train Your Dragon had dragons acting like cats.  She said it
was a fun movie and safe to take the children.  She found it to be a great deal
of fun.
Howeird reviewed it too, saying he thought it was an Amtrak
special.  The 3D treatment was poorly done and all the Vikings had Scottish
accents.  He found it to be extremely violent and would not take a small child
to see it.  He thought it was not quite worth matinée.
Ken said his past week went poorly.  He advised everyone to ensure all lamb is
properly cooked.  He was put out of commission for two days.  Then as he was
beginning to feel better, he got another kidney stone.  When he went to the
hospital, they gave him enough drugs so he passed it without any pain.
Fred said he went to Yuri’s Night.  It was loads of fun.  Maker’s Fair was
promoting there and offered discounts.
Andy said the second Matt Smith episode of Doctor Who had beautiful production
design and is still exploring different avenues of development.  Ken added
something about ringtones and being available on iTunes.
Glenn read Dealer’s Choice Saturday Night Poker, by Phil Folio, and says it’s
very tongue-in-cheek.  Gives names and descriptions of games.  Glenn would like
to have a Dealer’s Choice poker game at Westercon 64.
He also went to a party at Jo’s house, where he had an adverse
reaction between booze and prescription mix.  He’s much better now.
Kevin S. reprised Norwescon and said his Match Game went well.  He gave away a
few prizes.  Next one will be at Westercon—since he’s not sure he’ll be at
BayCon—and he can use questions for future shows.
Because of confusion, there were no fan tables for seated
Westercons.  Norwescon maxed their limit selling memberships. Kevin never made
it any of the parties.  He said he couldn’t find much at the convention of
interest to him.  There was little of what he considered fannish.
Kevin R. followed on that his experience of Norwescon was that
the attitudes found there were very similar to what is at BayCon.
Dave C. followed on saying that he, Dave G. and Spring all each
got sick one day at a time for three days straight and advises against eating
at the Doubletree’s coffee shop.  (Kevin S. recommends Dave’s Diner.)  Cargo
Cult’s sales were down.  Dave G. believes the Fannish Flea Market were down and
might have done better in the evening.
Dave G. went to the Sharks game last Saturday night and Sharks won.  Worth full
b-day price.
Chris’s trip to England was pretty good.  Gail Carriger’s second novel,
Changeless, was not as good as her first.  He started to watch GI Joe on flight
home from England, but couldn’t finish it.  Instead, he watched Jennifer’s
Body—twice.  Eastercon was a showcase of Morris dancing, knitting and bondage
panels.  He met Bo Hansen, the kewlest Scandinavian ever.  English people are
still there.  He and Linda had lots of fun.  They also went to World Horror
Convention.  Despite not being familiar with most of the guests, it had the
most awesome souvenir book ever.  He watched Brit TV, including Dancing on Ice,
Awjay’s Planet, and the new Doctor Who.  He said Power Rangers Britannia was a
show that would have done Ed Wood proud.  He and Linda went to the V&A, where
Chris raced to see all of its highlighted exhibits.  They had a fantastic trip.
He also saw Hot Tub Time Machine; it was amazing and very, very
funny.  He said if you only see one movie this year, see Hot Tub Time Machine
twice.
We did auctions.
Rumor of the Week:
“Chris Garcia says he has issues.”
We adjourned 9:20ish.
