Announcements

Diane
There’s a convention: SpaceAccess this Thursday through Saturday at the
Marriott Silicon Valley Landing in Fremont. She’s running hospitality.
Incredible speakers.
Gerald: The hotel has a limited number of presidential suites that would be
useful for parties. The executive suites are odd. The management is not really
amenable to parties either...

Gayle
Notre Damme Cathedral caught fire. Much damage. Most of the vault survived,
some stained glass is damaged, and the roof is gone. Lot of art was removed to
safety.

DaveC
Convention: Norwescon at the Doubletree in SeaTac, across from the airport.
Mary Robinette Kowal is GOH. Phillip K Dick Awards. Doesn’t recognize any of
the booksellers who aren’t also publishers.

JohnO

The author Gene Wolfe passed away, after a long productive life.

Reviews

DaveW
Started Hugo finalist reading. Related work: Astounding: John W. Campbell,
Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, L. Ron Hubbard, and the Golden Age of Science
Fiction by Alec Nevala-Lee. Interesting. Felt like it started as a Campbell
biography, but was asked to add more well known authors. Interesting especially
after reading a Heinlein bio. Credit to how the author explores how it wasn’t
just the men working among themselves, but had help from their wives. Will rank
high on his ballot. New perspective.

Was hoping to review his colonoscopy. Results were satisfactory. Went home and
ate crackers until he felt better...

Went to 3Below’s A Spoonful of Sherman. 55 songs from the Sherman family. 95%
music, 5% talking about the history of the family. Amazing show for people who
grew up on the Sherman songs. Relentlessly “Family is good” heteronormative
story. Performance is amazing, first act holds together better than the second.
Ken: Robert J "Robby" Sherman was in attendance that night. Did a Q&A after the
show.

Diane
Catching up on reading. Stephen Barnes anthology Assassins and Other Stories
(2010) Got some new offerings, fun to see the tales he can weave. Worth full
price, and wishes she’d found it when it first came out.

Vikas
Facebook Ads. Simple to use. 2-3 clicks. You can adjust how much money it’ll
spend. Others can boost your post as well. Hit 1K views for SpaceAccess in just
a few days, for just a few bucks.

JohnO
SpaceX Heavy Falcon launch. They seem to have it down. Beautiful launch, and
all three boosters landed cleanly. Worth loosing half-hour of work over.
Amazing that they can mount cameras all over the rockets.
Gerald: First stage fell off the platform into the ocean. There’s enough of
them to continue with their schedule.

Gerald:
In the game of golf, an amazing confluence that lead to Tiger Woods coming back
and winning.

There was no auction.

Meeting adjourned at: 20:58 and the rumor was: If you defer maintenance, you’re
going to take a lot of heat.
