Gearld: Rocketship XM was meant to go to the moon, but went to Mars. Snuck in
to cinemas before Heinlein’s destination moon.
Reviews
Yochanan
Wolf Man (in cinemas) horror/fantasy. Directed by Leigh Whannell (The Invisible
Man (2020)). This one is pretty generic. Set in Oregon with a small cast. The
wolf-man just looks creepy – not necessarily wolfy. You see the transformation
from his POV. Not great. Matinee (B-/C+)

Star Trek to San Francisco (CreationCon in Burlingame). Had a ball. Had a
copper pass. Rat Pack show was lots of fun. Only one track in the main room.
Some evening programming. Felt like most of the guests were fun. Sonequa
Martin-Green was there on Sunday in the photo room, and she took some time with
the fans. Won first show in a game show a (proze package included a Kirsty
Allen signed photo, amongst others). Worth full price.
Gerald: Was in the dealers room, and the planning had a lot to be desired, with
no flexibility. Reasonable amount of traffic, but not a much in sales as last
year. Guests and people and costumes were wonderful. Organizers could have done
better…
Jerry: Ken and I had a good time.
Rick
Star Trek: Section 31 (Paramount+) Michelle Yeoh is back. Was to be a series,
but is now a movie. 90 minutes of amiably underwritten, save-the-cat
boilerplate. Not entirely well worked out. Cast kind of phones it in. Good
fight scenes. Worth watching at a friend’s. It was OK.

Yochanan: Rick liked it more than he did. Bad Trek is better than no Trek, and
this was no Trek… More an Oceans 11 caper…
Robin: Fell asleep during the film. Highlight was the Emperor Philippa Georgiou
origin story (Yochanan agrees)
Severance (AppleTV+) High concept future workplace that separates your persona
into a work and outside life. Up to second episode of season 2. Evil corporate
mayhem turned up to 11. Rave review, highly recommend.

Alternative Liberties, Bob Brown’s alt series collection, literary resistance
to 45. Read a couple of the stories, and they were dark. Valerie says there’s a
couple lighter stories in it. Will it be darker than reality.

Rumor of the Week:
Bad Trek is better than no Trek.
