Announcements: Lisa: She will also not be here next week, as she will be at a convention (GallifreyOne in LA). gallifreyone.com <http://gallifreyone.com/> Yochanan: RIP: Catherine O’Hara. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_O'Hara <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_O'Hara> VirtuousCon: The Art of Resistance. 2/21-22 Online convention. VirtuousCon.com <http://virtuouscon.com/> Ken Last night (2/1) I began a series of a discussion of race and representation in Doctor Who. Spurred on by the casting of Rwanda born–Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa, as the title character, in May of 2022. Hosted by actor, comedian, life-long Doctor Who fan (and that bloke off the Blu Ray extras) Toby Hadoke, with his guest Professor Tom Attah - who is not only a popular music academic but, more crucially, a fellow life-long Doctor Who fan of colour. Part one can be listened to here: kfjc.org/listen/playlist?i=77782 <http://kfjc.org/listen/playlist?i=77782>. Parts two an three will be on Sundays the 15th and 22nd at 7 p.m. on KFJC (89.7 FM, kfjc.org <http://kfjc.org/>) Reviews Yochanan: Monterey Bay Aquarium. First time in over a decade, for his nephew’s birthday (his first time). Lots of fun. World Class. First time seeing a Hammerhead Shark, and Isopods (which he got to pet on the last day of being able to pet). A bit expensove, but worth full price (Sr. discount is for 70s an over). montereybayaquarium.org <http://montereybayaquarium.org/> Gerald: They also have/had a display of Jellies (and yes, still there). Gayle: Remembers the Sand Dollars – all vertical! The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek (prime). Five years old. Originally produced for the History Channel. 11 parts. Very interesting documentary. The order seems a bit off. Most episodes go through each era of the series. Informational, entertaining, interviews. Good but not great. Not blown away. Great if you don’t know the history already. imdb.com/title/tt15766736 <http://imdb.com/title/tt15766736> Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary (prime) 2019 look at the making and effect of the move for its 20th anniversary. Really good, worth full price. www.imdb.com/title/tt11044122/ <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt11044122/> Rick: Wonderman (D+/Marvel Spotlight) 8 part mini-series. Don’t need to know the MCU to watch. Contemporary LA, with an actor trying out for roles. Meets Ben Kingsly’s Trevor Slattery. Small intimate character, dialogue based story. Absolutely delightful. Spoof on hollywood and superheroes. Highly recommend. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Man_(miniseries) A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO) 6 part story. Before the Song of Fire and Ice. Nice to see Northern Ireland again. Keeping Irish, British and Aussie actors employed. Based upon Martin’s short stories of Dunk and Egg? So far so good. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Knight_of_the_Seven_Kingdoms_(TV_series) Gerald: The Right Cross, thrown by US Congressperson Ilhan Omar, to assailant squirting with unknown liquid. Looked like it was done with significant velocity. Kennita: Exploratorium. MIT-AIP Afterparty. Delightful. Didn’t go deep inside. The front part was engaging. Worth full price (and this was more expensive for this event)! At Pier 15 these days. exploratorium.edu <http://exploratorium.edu/> Rumor of the Week: Right cross, for the win! Adjourned at: 20:53 There was no auction
