About a month back I submitted a bug I found to this list.. No response..?
Hi Sven,
Sorry for the lack of response. I was asking the other committers if the patch was small enough to accept without a contributors agreement. Most of the folks were traveling at the time and the issue got dropped.
Since that time it has become clear that Apache is moving towards a much more rigid stance on this issue. So I need to ask if you have an Apache CLA on file.
I'd sure like to know and if this is not a 'feature', was there a
problem with the short fix I submitted?
There were a few small issues[*] but the real problem was the CLA one.
After all, I'm only trying to help here, so some response should be warranted, if not for other reasons than politeness.
Yes, but a polite ping might also be nice, there is a fair amount of mail and dealing with a patch (especially from a first time contributor) can be time consuming - and hence may be delayed until someone has free time. Also submitting patches through Bugzilla can be an excellent way to ensure the topic doesn't get dropped (we do review bugzilla).
Once again I am sorry that the patch fell through the cracks. --
[*] There was one issue with the patch:
A simple upshift is not sufficent. You need to fill the low bits with a copy of the high bits. Otherwise it is impossible to cover the complete range.
Also a test case for regard would be greatly appreciated. Currently it isn't clear how you would tigger this code path and consiquently the chance that we break your code in the future is relatively high.
