My view differs Jim. I like the idea of saying book (a docbook book) and book (something else). My fear is that if we are too liberal with xml, it may well degenerate into the cr ap that html became in the years of the java wars. I can only apply the semantics of the document if I believe it to be utilising standards such as XML and its applications such as SVG. The present generation of browsers, deliver even if its cr ap mode of operation is IMHO, v.wrong. If ASV3 is doing that then that's a big minus from me. XML compliance is required, not optional. Hopefully the next XML will include ns, and SVG will align. If ASV choose to go other ways it'll come off my machine. Just how much trouble do you get with the legacy of the browser wars in your world of js? I'm hopeful that compliant XML applications will honour XML and abide by its rules. That way lies sanity IMHO.
