If you want to add a group programmatically, here is a sample code:
SVGSVGElement svgRoot = (SVGSVGElement) svgDocument.getDocumentElement();
SVGOMGElement circleSet = (SVGOMGElement)
svgDocument.createElementNS("http://www.w3.org/2000/svg", "g");
circleSet.setAttributeNS(null, "id" "circlegroup");
svgRoot.appendChild(circleSet);
