Hi Ronan, Sam,

  Do you think it could have something to do with my .bbdb? It is
full of lots of spam-like entries, and I haven't ever bothered to
try to clean it up.

  Does it help if I tell you that when I try the same thing on NTEMACS
GNU Emacs 20.6.1 (i386-*-windows98.1998) of Tue Feb 29 2000 on buffy
on win98 (yeah, I know...) I still get:

Signaling: (invalid-function #<subr save-current-buffer>)
  save-current-buffer(#<buffer .bbdb> nil nil nil ([nil nil nil nil
    (snip)
  bbdb-records()
  bbdb/rmail-update-record(nil)
  bbdb/rmail-pop-up-bbdb-buffer(nil)
  bbdb/rmail-update-record()
  run-hooks(rmail-show-message-hook)
  rmail-show-message()
  byte-code("...

  This is with the same .bbdb, btw.

] *why* the problem is happening. I'll drag it over to a Solaris box and
