    To use emerge I had to use a non-lemacs.  If anyone happens to know of
    a version that works with lemacs, *please* let me know.  It's
    definitely a way cool tool.
    
Ok, so it turns out that I've been overriding the working version of
emerge, which is included in the lemacs distribution, with my
personal, broken, copy . . . .
