This is just the resultant overhead of doing lots of processing. I'm
not sure there is anything you can do about it, other than try to
optimise like crazy. The same can be said for GNUS, which (no insult
intended) nobody in their sane mind would use due to its incredible
sloth; I found it unbearable on a SPARC 10, for goodness' sake.
For the record, BBDB (1.50) takes me about 25 seconds to format 430
records on an otherwise unloaded MIPS Magnum 3000.
