hi all,
just a friendly fyi to any/all at BareBones who are interested ... and
since BareBones' sales suggested to a colleague that support should know
abt it.
i've been a bbedit user forever. personally, a big fan. not a naysayer.
not a troll. don't flame me.
i've been involved with a company looking to build out its dev
organization. part of the process of ramp-up was asking what the devs
wanted (novel idea, no?).
short story -- the top requests/reqt's included (among others, of course):
laptop
unix-friendly
...
editor/ide w/:
language-specific syntax highlighting
svn/cvs integration
code folding
the solution i'd hoped to see was mac powerbooks with bbedit ...
bottom line, the decision was made -- by the tech staff -- for linux
laptops w/ KDE. the decision-making/gripe-session disintegrated around,
amazingly, lack of code folding ... and the question/comment:
"why should we PAY for an editor that doesn't do the things that we
want, ESPECIALLY when those features are widely available elsewhere
(Kate, Eclipse, etc etc)"
they're buying systems for ~ 110 developers. mucho $$$. almost "had
'em" on Macs with BBEdit.
caveats to consider:
these are not my arguments ... just reporting for interest.
i know barebones doesn't talk about new/unreleased features. period.
i've repeatedly heard from barebones that "if a feature is requested
enuf ..."
i know code folding has been talked about here since at least 2004.
