Making features accessible is as important as building them in the first place. The "show drawer" icon doesn't mean "let me search" to me.

I think the field for the search should be always visible. Once you type in it, THEN the draw 'sproings' out.

It could even be where the drawer icon is, and fairly small (though a bit wider than what is there now). Just a magnifying glass and a small field. It could even behave exactly like it does now, you click there in the field to start typing and the drawer appears with the cursor in the search field. it would be BETTER, I think, to type in the field and only have the drawer appear when you hit return, but the former would be much easier as it is effectively just swapping one icon for another.

See, the thing is, the finder-like/spotlight-like/mail-like search field is familiar. We know what that does. The drawer icon doesn't MEAN anything, it's just a drawer.

One thing that is odd is when you click an item in the drawer, nothing happens. I mean, nothing at all. And when you double click it, you get the appropriate pref pane, but no indication of where to look. Wouldn't it be possible to 'highlight' the right area with a nifty quartz affect?

And some of the items will point to the same pref pane, so it might make sense to group these somehow. Though I can't think how right now, so never mind there.

When I search for 'color' I get a list that includes "Syntax Coloring" twice. Each pointing to a different pref pane. See why we said the prefs were confusing?

For the record, the checkbox for "Sytnac Coloring" on the Editor: Defaults pane should be on the text colors pane.

if you ever get that chimp of your back, if you ever find the thing you lack, ah but you know you're only having a laugh. Oh, oh here we go again -- until the end.
