The Rainbow Cursor of Death seems to appear an awful lot more in 8.5
than it did in 8.2.x. My suspicious, a this point totally unfounded,
is that the problem has to do with auto-save and/or spell checking.
I've been editing a large HTML file that is mostly just <p> tags, so
very little actual code, and wehn i was editing the style I copied a
single style block from the "screen" css area to the "print" css
area. As soon as I hit COmmand-W, the RCOD showed up for a good 40+
seconds. I say 40+ because at that point I stopped counting and
switched to Safari. When i came back several minutes later, all was
well.
The same thing seems to happen when I am typing. I was in the middle
of a rather long paragraph and all of a sudden, I got the RCOD on
screen. It lasted, again, over 40 seconds, and by the time I came
back, it was finally done. Neither time did I have the patience to
wait to see how long it was, but it was long enough to be annoying.
And most of the 'type-ahead' that I'd done before I noticed the RCOD
was lost when BBedit 'woke up' finally.
My first question is, when saving the recovery state, does it do that
to a local location, or to the location where the file is stored? I
suspect the later, since this sort of delay is what I tend to see
when saving to remote WebDAV locations, and that's where this file
lives.
