I think code folding will be in a state of flux for the coming months,
with BareBones looking for feedback on where to fold, and what to
include. No folding support in Java is a strong indication of that
IMHO.

That's essentially correct.

During development, the question came up: "Do we really want to generate fold points for every damn brace? :-)" There are upsides and downsides to generating fold points in the gutter for every possibly foldable construct, but we elected to be conservative and keep the fold gutter as uncluttered as we reasonably could, collect customer feedback, and go forward from there.

As to Java, yes: the Java language module is long overdue for a rewrite to address some of its long-standing shortcomings and add requested features (and some new basics, like folding). I plan to attack this pretty soon (unless someone beats me to it ;-)).
