At 5:44p +0800 10/01/2006, Peter N Lewis didst inscribe upon an electronic BTW, Interarchy 8.0 dropped support for MacBinary (essentially because it caused more problems than it solved), however Interarchy 8.2 added support for transparent file converters, and include both a MacBinary encoder, as well as a Backup encoder which encodes all meta data (including things like HFS+ extended attributes) and has none of the limitations of MacBinary.

What ever happened with MacBinary III?
(Did I ask this before?)

MacBinary III is defined at:

http://www.lazerware.com/macbinary/macbinary_iii.html

It is used by most modern MacBinary encoders. It is backwards compatible with MacBinary I and II. If adds the Finder script field and a byte of Finder extended flags. It does not really go very far towards resolving any of the major MacBinary failings.

Enjoy,
   Peter.
