I do not quite understand how BBEdit handles character sets.
Since I live in Sweden, I often work with texts in ISO Latin 1 containing the character ä and ö, these characters are also used in other languages, for example German. The characters ä and ö have different value in Mac Roman and ISO Latin 1. In spite of this, when I open a file which is in either Mac Roman or ISO Latin 1, BBEdit will display these characters correctly on the screen. Question 1: Does BBEdit have any automagic method of "guessing" the character set in a file. Since without knowing if a file is ISO Latin 1 or Mac Roman, BBEdit would not be able to display ä and ö correctly. Question 2: BBEdit seems to store somewhere its own knowledge about a file, used for example when I open a file and get to the same position in a file when I last visited it. Where is this information stored by BBEdit, and what is stored there? Question 3: Does BBEdit have commands or plugin to do the following kinds of conversions: (a) All line breaks from CR or CRLF to LF. (b) MacRoman to ISO Latin 1 and the reverse. (c) HTML entities (like ä for ä) to Mac Roman, to ISO Latin 1, and the reverse. (d) Can I define macros, saying that with one single command I want to both translate 8-bit chracters to HTML entities and CR or CRLF to LF. -- Jacob Palme <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (Stockholm University and KTH) for more info see URL: http://www.dsv.su.se/jpalme/ -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Have a feature request?
