In a new directory, I created 100 identical files, named t1.txt thru t100.txt, all containing one line 'the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy black dog 1234567890 times'. No other files in this dir.

I then open a disk browser and navigate to this directory. I also create a new file group. To the file group I add my new directory, via the file group dialogue.

A multi-file search for 'fox' on the disk browser returns 100 results, one per file, just as expected.

A multi-file search on the file group returns 1 result, for the first file, t1.txt

I try a different new file group. Instead of choosing a directory, I drag all 100 files into the new group. I search this file group and again only get one result, for t1.txt. I remove this file from the file group, and search again, and get one result in t25.txt. So I delete t25.txt from the file group and search again, and get one result, t34.txt. I remove that and search again, and get t98.txt. So I remove that, search again, and get t12.txt. This seems bizarre.

I reported this to support last week, haven't heard anything yet. I've googled and seen nothing but my own post about this bug. Seems to me file groups are totally unreliable until this is fixed.

I'm on a powerbook FW 800, 1.25 mghz PPC processor, running the latest 10.4.10 with all updates.
