There is a feature in Firefox that allows you to search for a word (Through cmd-F) and then highlight all occurrences of that word in the current document.
I love that feature and this is one of several reasons why I use FF as my default browser in spite of it not being "Mac-like" and even in spite of severe memory leaks.

I guess bbedit has Quick Search that comes closest.

It would be so nice if bbedit would have a feature that if you select a word in bbedit it will automatically hightlight all other references in that file.

Actually I think the Find All button comes closest. And, even better than FF, if you click the Multi-file search checkbox in the Find/Replace dialog, you will see some intereseting options. Check it out!

The option to make it stick to the bottom is less important although I would prefer that as well.

I'm not sure what you mean by "stick to the bottom" ... if you mean the Find panel that FF opens just above the status bar, in my copy of BBEdit the Quick Search is a separate floating window, never on the bottom of the document window. And it stays open. So I am unclear on what advantage you find in having a Quick Search feature attached to a single window.

I find that the floating window, in the context of a text editing application in which you might be simultaneously working with several documents, is very nice because you can apply the same Quick Search criterion to a different document simply by changing document focus (in the drawer or by Cmd-` to switch window focus). In FF, on the other hand, you need to retype your search string if you wish to perform the same search in a different window (although it will retain your search string across all tabs in the same window).

But, back to BBEdit. I find the Find All feature superior to anything in Firefox because of that multi-file checkbox ... you can find all results in all open documents or in a selected folder, etc., and they will be listed in the same Search Results window. Plus, if you keep the Results window open and perform another Find All you will not lose the first hit-list. Instead BBEdit will open a Search Results 2 window with the new hit-list.

Did I overlook something and is one the above features already present? What is the procedure to submit feature requests?

From the Support FAQ: <http://www.barebones.com/support/faq/faq.php?action=question&minor_id=1&question_id=41>

For future reference I found that page by typing into Firefox's Google search field:

feature request site:wwwbarebones.com

I hope that I didn't bore you with my rave about Find All in BBEdit ... perhaps you've already noticed it and it just doesn't "do it" for you....

have fun,

kazar
