In BBEdit you can also assign a keyboard shortcut that will "complete" a function for you (so you don't have to go fishing for it with your mouse). The "complete" command is under Clipping (a little "C" in the menu bar) -> Insert Clipping...

Ok, so I just misunderstood, I thought you were saying there was a "Complete" item that appeared in a submenu of "Insert Clipping..."

Unfortunately this doesn't really work the way anyone would expect as a code completion... it doesn't even replace the selection, it literally only inserts the clipping.

Hmm.... it replaces the selection on my system... odd...

What I usually do is, I start typing the first several characters of the function I'm looking for and hit my keyboard shortcut. If there are several matches, I see keyboard-navigable list and select the one I want. The first several characters ARE replaced with the clipping item and in the case of functions, the selection now contains the return value of the function (which, if you hit Delete, goes away, leaving only the function definition). At this point, I use my Next Placeholder keyboard shortcut to select the first parameter and type its value, etc., until arriving at the semi-colon (which I almost always delete, but sometimes I just type the semi-colon if needed).

I hope this helps, clears things up a bit.
