It also sounds like a weirdness I've always had with a (really old)
Microsoft Mouse I have. It was a known hardware problem with this
early batch of MS laser mice, and I've learned to cure the problem by
repeatedly clicking the center button while tapping (okay, banging)
the mouse on the table.
One day I'll pony up to replace this mouse, but otherwise it still
works just fine.

For awhile I thought it was caused by the AFP server (my documents
are opened from) was going off line, and BBedit got confused when
the server came back... but I'm feeling less like that's the
culprit these days (since it seems to happen even when the AFP
server is running fine).
I'm not sure what version this started in (maybe 8.6), but I keep
thinking the latest version will fix it... but it never does... so
I'm tossing this note to the list to see if this is something
unique to the way we work in my office, if lots of people have this
problem, or if there is some silly setting I need to change to
prevent this.
