Hi I think that it is very good to check out the trial and use it for as long as possible as BBEdit has many capabilities that are not immediately apparent.
It is very difficult to do a comparison of BBEdit and TextMate in a direct sort of way because they are such differentl designs. On the specific issue of search/replace: I think BBEdit offers a really top class search/replace capability. When using RegEx (grep) there is colouring to identify wild cards, character classes parenthesis, matching parenthesis and that kind of thing. Also the flavour of RegEx is very complete and user friendly. With BBEdit multiple-file searching is extremely well implemented. The results of searches are displayed in browsers which are very informative and lovely to work with.
