The projects file listing is all-inclusive and, in my case, often long and with many files in subfolders. The documents drawer shows just the few files I may be working on at the moment, some of which may not even be in the current project. If I need to jump around frequently among a few current files, I would hate to have to depend on finding them in the projects listing for this purpose.
But you can always close the drawer if you don't work the same way.
