Thanks for the reply but this doesn’t work.

Going through this process, the first save works w/o complaint but any 
subsequent save brings up the document mismatch dialog.  I am editing these 
documents via Fetch so wonder if that  isn’t an important variable to consider. 
 In Fetch you can select a file and then do: Remote > Edit where the prefs have 
been set to use BBEdit.
