This is precisely the point that some of us have been making.
Not everyone can afford the latest and the greatest machines.

Who told you that you had to buy the "latest and greatest"?

Apple has sold only Intel machines (all of which can run 10.6) for
roughly 5 years, some for as little as $600 (when new).

The fact they sell machines for as little as $600 isn't the point. For me to replace my G5 (which has plenty of grunt for my needs) would cost me around $5000. I need a 3-display setup which isn't possible (according to my research) except with a MacPro. So yes, some of us need the 'greatest' machine, although eBay allows one to skip the 'latest' requirement.

I haven't checked eBay recently so maybe I could get away with closer to $2500, but still more than I want to spend on a new machine simply so I can run software that is Intel-only. I will admit that if BBEdit ever becomes Intel-only then I may be more inclined to buy a new machine. But thankfully that day isn't here yet.

I do agree with all the posters that state it's not easy (or desirable) for everyone to upgrade hardware. Anyone who thinks they know my situation better than me, please share your credit card details with me so I can upgrade too. Otherwise stop telling us how easy & cheap it is to upgrade.
