If you're new to version control, as I was, my suggestion would be to get a 
copy of Cornerstone (http://www.zennaware.com/cornerstone/index.php).  You 
don't need to know too much about version control and it comes with its own 
self-contaned version of subversion.

I use it for my very simple coding needs, websites, LaTeX documents and all 
kinds of other text based documents.  Highly recommended.
