Hmm.  From a UI perspective it seems like this would take a fair amount of 
work, however I wonder if perhaps *locking* two windows together might not take 
much effort.

You'd still have to convince the devs that this is worth their time.

In any case it'd be easy to adapt my 2-up script to size and position two 
windows neatly together as you like it.  It would also not be too difficult to 
build some smarts into the script, so that it remembered the two window names 
or the two documents associated with them.  Perhaps one script to save the 
front two windows' parameters into the main script, and the main script to do 
the opening (if necessary) and positioning.

Many things are possible.
