Thanks :) Until recently, I've always used '.txt' but a markdown app called Texts <http://texts.io> and this post <http://daringfireball.net/linked/2014/01/08/markdown-extension> got me thinking about using '.text' and so far OS X finder's QuickLook, Atom Editor, BBEdit, Byword, Smultron, Sublime Text, TextMate and Ulysses handle the new extension nicely. Time will tell.
