Good { morning, afternoon, evening },
We're working on a major upgrade to BBEdit, and have decided to
make a pre-release version available to the BBEdit-Talk
discussion group.
*** Please note that 12.0 is not an automatic free upgrade. Your
license code for BBEdit 11 or older will not work, but you
should have no difficulty using BBEdit 12 in evaluation mode for
the duration of the standard 30-day evaluation period.
*** If you purchased BBEdit 11 very recently, there is no cause
for alarm - we will announce free-upgrade details and send
license codes to eligible customers when the new version is released.
*** You can use BBEdit 11.6.7 and 12.0 side-by-side for the
duration of the beta period, if you wish. (This is actually a
good idea, since you can cross-check any problems against the
old version while writing up a bug report.)
Note that this is a _pre-release_ version. The intent is to fix
bugs and address areas of improvement based on what our
customers have reported. However, since the software is at this
point not fully tested, there _may_ be bugs and regressions.
If this prospect makes you nervous, then sticking with the
public release versions is your best course of action. Nobody
will be offended if you choose to do so; you're under no
obligation to install and use anything but a public release. :-)
Following is a summary of changes since the most recent
pre-release build. Complete change notes for all of the
pre-release builds in this cycle are available here: <https://s3.amazonaws.com/BBSW-download/12.0_Notes.txt>.
The change notes are organized into additions, changes, and
fixes, and are annotated where appropriate with case numbers. So
if you recognize a number corresponding to a support case that
was opened for you, you can now verify that it's been fixed
correctly. Please take the time to review the changes before
using the new build -- it'll be worth your time.
One final note: If you run into a bug in a pre-release version,
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE BUG TO THE LIST. This includes asking
about whether others have seen the same problem. Instead, please
send a bug report to <[email protected]> and we will deal
with it there. This will help us keep the list discussion on
topic and productive for all list members.
============================================================================
version 12.0 (398039) (2017-09-04)
*** BBEdit now requires macOS 10.11.6 or later.
*** This build does not necessarily fix a bug that you reported.
Please review the notes, and if the case number *or* description
matches something that you reported, please check it and make
sure that it's working as expected.
If the change notes do not mention your specific issue and you
continue to encounter it, please do *not* write in and
report it
again. I promise we'll get to it in due course.
Additions
---------
* [DOC] Added a setting to the Editing preferences: "Allow
pinch-to-zoom to change magnification", which does what it says
on the tin.
Changes
-------
* Made changes to the HTML/XML function scanner so that it
generates a prettier function menu.
* The "Go to Named Symbol" panel will display badges consistent
with what the function menu shows, where possible.
* Added keyboard equivalent defaults for Jump Points/Next and Jump
Points/Previous.
Fixes
-----
* [342784] Fixed crash caused by missing resource for the Perforce
"Show Revision History" panel.
* Modernized the Dock progress bar implementation.
* Increased the maximum height of the Windows palette so that it
can be fully extended when on very tall displays (such as a 16x9
display stood on the short edge).
* [342664] Improved the duplicate detection in the "Go to Named
Symbol" panel so that items on the same line but with different
names aren't considered duplicates.
* [NFR] [342738] Marked the completion panel window as "Move to
Active Space" so that it appears in the space containing the
window on which it is invoked.
* [NFR] [342737] Fixed bug in which Live Search would not
clean up
the highlight ranges when dismissed, and would update the
highlight ranges when switching documents even when hidden.
* [NFR] Fixed a regression in which applying differences in a
Differences window would cause the data to get out of sync.
* [NFR] Made a change to suppress completion of single quotes in
Markdown documents.
* [NFR] [342860] Fixed bug in which
auto-pairing/selection-surrounding was not done correctly
for the
backtick character.
* [NFR] [342734] Fixed bug in which stale drag highlights would
occur when dragging items around within a window.
* [NFR] Made further refinements to the fix for [342604], so that
the selection range is correct after Undo/Redo with the "new"
behavior in effect.
* [NFR] [342907] Fixed bug in which the last item on the last row
would be lost in a column operation if the text being processed
did not end with a line break.
* [NFR] [342912] Fixed bug in which keyboard equivalents for
filters would be reset.
* [NFR] [342400] Text rendering in edit views now honors the
system-wide "Use LCD font smoothing when available" setting.
* [NFR] [343005] When generating the drag image for a text
selection, set the background color to "clear" so that the
resulting drag image has more transparency.
* [NFR] [343092] Corrected alignment of the "recent items" popup
menu image on @1x displays.
* [NFR] [342767]. Dynamic command groups and flippy commands with
no base key equivalent should now all be displayed properly.
Also, significantly improved performance of loading menus
and key
binding prefs.
* [NFR] [342777] Fixed bug in loading of legacy keyboard
equivalents which used Backspace or ForwardDelete.
* [NFR] [343156] Fixed a regression which would cause a crash in
"Go To Named Symbol" if the document had any markers in it.
