Good { morning, afternoon, evening },
We're working on a major upgrade to BBEdit, and have decided to
make a pre-release version available to the BBEdit-Talk
discussion group.
*** Please note that 12.0 is not an automatic free upgrade. Your
license code for BBEdit 11 or older will not work, but you
should have no difficulty using BBEdit 12 in evaluation mode for
the duration of the standard 30-day evaluation period.
*** If you purchased BBEdit 11 very recently, there is no cause
for alarm - we will announce free-upgrade details and send
license codes to eligible customers when the new version is released.
*** You can use BBEdit 11.6.7 and 12.0 side-by-side for the
duration of the beta period, if you wish. (This is actually a
good idea, since you can cross-check any problems against the
old version while writing up a bug report.)
Note that this is a _pre-release_ version. The intent is to fix
bugs and address areas of improvement based on what our
customers have reported. However, since the software is at this
point not fully tested, there _may_ be bugs and regressions.
If this prospect makes you nervous, then sticking with the
public release versions is your best course of action. Nobody
will be offended if you choose to do so; you're under no
obligation to install and use anything but a public release. :-)
Following is a summary of changes since the most recent
pre-release build. Complete change notes for all of the
pre-release builds in this cycle are available here: <https://s3.amazonaws.com/BBSW-download/12.0_Notes.txt>.
The change notes are organized into additions, changes, and
fixes, and are annotated where appropriate with case numbers. So
if you recognize a number corresponding to a support case that
was opened for you, you can now verify that it's been fixed
correctly. Please take the time to review the changes before
using the new build -- it'll be worth your time.
One final note: If you run into a bug in a pre-release version,
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE BUG TO THE LIST. This includes asking
about whether others have seen the same problem. Instead, please
send a bug report to <[email protected]> and we will deal
with it there. This will help us keep the list discussion on
topic and productive for all list members.
============================================================================
version 12.0 (398041) (2017-09-06)
*** BBEdit now requires macOS 10.11.6 or later.
*** This build does not necessarily fix a bug that you reported.
Please review the notes, and if the case number *or* description
matches something that you reported, please check it and make
sure that it's working as expected.
If the change notes do not mention your specific issue and you
continue to encounter it, please do *not* write in and
report it
again. I promise we'll get to it in due course.
Additions
---------
o (none in this build)
Changes
-------
* [DOC] Relaxed text column parsing for column operations on the
Edit menu in cases where the document is not explicitly TSV or
CSV. In the relaxed case, column delimiters (tab or comma) which
appear in text inside of double quotes are considered column
separators, and line breaks which appear in text inside of double
quotes will end the line.
Fixes
-----
* [342102] Fixed bug in the C-family function scanner in which
callout comments following function prototypes would be
duplicated in some situations.
* [343165] Added `__SUB__` to the built-in Perl keyword list.
* [343165] Fixed bug in Perl syntax coloring in which whitespace
between the `=` and the name of a POD comment were
interpreted as
a valid POD comment.
* Modernized some code in the `bbfind` tool.
* [NFR] [343198] Set the keyboard equivalent on the "Open" button
in FTP/SFTP browsers so that pressing Return or Enter will open
the selected item(s).
* [NFR] [343209] Fixed regression in which the application
triggered unexpected Process Manager behavior because of work
being done at startup before the OS was ready to deal with it.
The usual manifestation was that the application would behave
strangely when asked to activate by another process.
* [NFR] Fixed bug in which SFTP browsers would fail to reconnect
at startup, usually reporting a timeout error.
