Hi, Ok, so I lied and continued with the subject.
Finally I decided to go Alfredo's route: use a ".editorconfig" file which doesn't trim ending whitespace for files with extension ".data". It seems to be working fine. Thanks to everyone for the interesting alternatives that you showed me.
