For reference, this misbehavior is not directly related to the prior inquiry; it is instead the result of an OS issue which sometimes manifests upon system restarts.
To the current poster and anyone else who may have encountered this issue, the best way to avoid it is to explicitly quit BBEdit before restarting your machine (whether doing an OS update or just a normal restart).
