Thats exactly what most of those handy secure delete utilities
for other operating systems do, with 13 passes (alternated zeros
and randoms) being considered "secure".

However, ive also read (and heard anecdotal stories) about various
types of forensic software being capable of reading magnetic 
signatures on very deep levels.  However, these anecdotes always 
include the caveat that this sort of thing works best on unencrypted
ascii files, and everything else only marginally well.
