I've always used the Chatsworth aluminum relay racks, bolted to
the floor, and until recently been pretty happy with them. But
some of the machines we've been buying recently are so long I
can't imagine them holding themselves up on their rack ears,
so I've decided we need to look at the options. Problem is,
I have literally no experience with cabinets, nor does anyone
else where I work. So, some questions:

I have seen cabinets, and I have seen what I thought of as
"four post racks" --- looking a good deal like two relay
racks connected front-to-back. Are these the same thing
as cabinets, just without the sides?

Given what I think of as a "normal" 1U machine with a pair of
rack ears on the front of the chassis, how do you install it
in a 4-post rack? I assume there's some additional hardware
you need to get, but everything I can imagine involves drilling
holes in the chassis --- not something I want to do to existing
machines.

If someone in the area who uses 4-post racks would be willing
to show me around their machine room and let me pick their brain
and buy them lunch, I'd be most grateful.
