Here's how I did it:
 Go to a computer hardware shop and ask the salesman which chipsets are on the 
cards that he sells. Some actually do know that but you should ask to be able 
to return it if it isn't the right one.
Telling him that it is for a linux system makes some of them actually more 
cooperative.

If he does not know, ask him if you can take a look at the card. If the main 
chip is a supported broadcom chip, take it.
Other possibility: take a Knoppix-CD with you and ask him to try it out in his 
store.

If he's not willing to help you, look for another store.
