If I remember correctly (not likely according to my wife), one of the
conditions for acceptance of
d80211 into the kernel was its ability to coexist with softmac. Does that mean
the bcm43xx-softmac
will stay in the kernel even after bcm43xx-d80211 goes mainstream? If that is
the case, then it
won't hurt that 4301 and 4303 won't be supported under d80211. Of course, the
maintainer of the
softmac version will have to keep up with changes in the d80211 version, but
that is essentially the
case now. If the softmac version goes out of mainstream, then the maintenance
problem is greatly
magnified.
