Contrary to logic, if you set your rate to 1M, you will get better throughput. Copying a file across my internal network with the rate set at 1M, I get 81 KB/s upload and 66 on download. Both are close to the expected maximum rate ( 1M bits/sec / 8 bits/byte / 2 (approximate overhead).
