I'm pretty sure that high speed is just 802.11e frame aggregation or
similar.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that it needs to be programmed
differently. The eeprom settings and the calibration is quite flexible
so a higher power chip with the appropriate feedback would be
sufficient.
