How strong it must be? What tells me the Quality value? When is it good?

I took your advice and move closer to the access point. I've got this
values:

eth1 Scan completed :
    Cell 01 - Address: 00:14:1B:60:6A:40
              ESSID:"802.1X"
              Quality=91/100  Signal level=-55 dBm  Noise level=-72 dBm

but I still had problems to connect. Sometime, I've got a noise level of
-256 dBm. Is this correct? Is this a good value?

I read in the README that these are the differences between 2.6.20 and
2.6.21-rc1. So I decided to build 2.6.21-rc1. The values above are from
this new kernel.

BTW: I saw, you didn't patch set_channelfreq() as I suggested in
https://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/bcm43xx-dev/2007-February/003815.html
Did you forget about it or do you have a reason not to include it?

In my first mail in this thread, I've included the output from iwevent.
There is a line “Custom driver event:authenticated.” The wpa_supplicant
people said this is meaningless to them. Is this true? When gets this
event send out?

And I made another observation. SoftMAC sometimes report about error
code 12. Should I care about it? What does it mean?

SoftMAC: Queueing Authentication Request to 00:14:1b:60:6a:40
SoftMAC: Cannot associate without being authenticated, requested authentication
SoftMAC: Sent Authentication Request to 00:14:1b:60:6a:40.
SoftMAC: Open Authentication with 00:14:1b:60:6a:40 failed, error code: 12
SoftMAC: Authentication response received from 00:12:f0:07:51:9e but no queue
item exists.

Schöne Grüße, Jörg.
