Thanks, but I generally use 24 M.  It only doesn't work well with *some* access
points in which cases I use the above command to set 11 M bit rate.  Still, the
card/driver switches back to 24 M after some time and I have to repeat it,
which is sort of tedious.  I thought it would be possible to get rid of this
without patching the kernel. ;-)
